Alex Gonzales Elected Managing
Shareholder of Winstead's Austin Office
Austin, Jan. 23, 2007 The law firm
of Winstead announced that shareholder Alex Gonzales has been
named managing shareholder of the Austin Office. Gonzales
has more than 19 years of legal experience working in the Austin
region. He represents financial institutions, including
insurance companies, in regulatory and compliance matters and
he is the Austin section head of Winstead's Corporate Section.
Gonzales succeeds David Hewlett, who served as Winstead's Austin
Office managing shareholder for seven years.

2006 by the Austin Business Journal, Gonzales is a gifted business
lawyer who says he enjoys the time he gets to spend with his
clients working on large, complex cases. Prior to his
work at Winstead, Gonzales, a Navy veteran, served as the Associate
Commissioner of Insurance (Legal and Compliance) at the
Texas Department of Insurance and he has been credited with
helping to conceptualize and craft legislation that paved the
way for the creation of the Texas Insurance Fraud Bureau.
Gonzales served as the 2002-2003 Chair of the American Bar Association's
32,000 member Tort/Trial and Insurance Practice Section and
he's served in numerous leadership roles for the State Bar of
Texas and the Austin Bar Association. Gonzales is the
Board Secretary/Treasurer for WorkSource - the Greater Austin
Workforce Board. He also coaches lacrosse for the Austin
Town & Country Youth Lacrosse Association and he is a youth
league commissioner for the North Texas Hockey League.
He's been listed in The Best Lawyers in America,
Insurance Law, 2004-2007; Texas Super Lawyers, 2005-2007, and
Who's Who in American Law. Gonzales received his J.D.
from the University of Texas School of Law; his M.B.A. in Finance
from the University of California, Berkeley; and his B.A. in
