Laforge Appointed To International Law Faculty Position In Eastern Europe

WASHINGTON, D.C., Feb. 24, 2006 - Winstead Sechrest & Minick P.C. Shareholder William LaForge was recently appointed to a visiting professorship at the University of National and World Economy in Sofia, Bulgaria, for fall 2006.

Selected from among 147 applicants, LaForge is a member of the inaugural group of senior U.S. lawyers being named to academic posts in the former Eastern bloc and Soviet states by the Center for International Legal Studies.

"I am honored to serve as a visiting professor for the university and its students while sharing my experiences in Bulgaria," LaForge said. "The Center for International Legal Studies has given several American lawyers the chance to expand our horizons into the international legal community."
LaForge will teach commercial law and comparative U.S. law to the university's law students. His appointment is for a concentrated two-week period in November that will include class lectures, seminars and conferences with law students and faculty. In January, he attended a one-week series of seminars in Salzburg, Austria, to prepare for his pro bono assignment.

A member of Winstead's Government Relations & Public Policy Section and a consultant with Winstead Consulting Group, LaForge is in his 25th year of teaching as an adjunct professor at George Washington University's School of Business in Washington, D.C. With more than 30 years experience in the public policy arena, LaForge focuses his practice on federal government relations and representation of businesses and other organizations with public policy interests before the U.S. Congress and executive branch agencies. He also is president-elect of the Federal Bar Association and will become national president at the annual convention in Las Vegas this August.

In addition to a B.A. from Delta State University, LaForge earned his J.D. from the University of Mississippi School of Law and an L.LM. from Georgetown University. In 1992, he was named Alumnus of the Year by Delta State University in 1992.
